Murray State University

In the past, Murray State University has addressed the issue of textbook and course material costs in the past through initiatives such as a Staff Congress Foundation scholarship which assists staff members and their dependents obtain textbooks. More recently, the Dean of Libraries has initiated promoting the use of library-owned eBooks as course-adopted textbooks;the LibGuide for this offering provides four different current examples. In 2023, the university-run bookstore began an “inclusive access” program, which is on an opt-out basis. Inside the parameters of the more classical definition of OER, the Libraries have identified potential faculty champions in various stages of open ed adoption. To support such faculty, the Libraries’ campus-wide Open Access Initiatives award expanded its scope to include OER creators or adopters under a widened umbrella of Open Scholarship Practitioners.
