Maximizing Your Degree
To make the most of your college experience, take full advantage of academic resources like advising early and often. Meet with your academic advisor regularly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies. The advisors and DUS work as a team that can help you map out a long-term plan, explore double majors or minors, and identify undergraduate certificates and other programs that align with your goals. If you’re interested in earning a dual degree, start planning as early as possible since it requires careful course selection and scheduling. The University of Kentucky also offers undergraduate research and grant opportunities, as well as study abroad options—opportunities that can set you apart and enrich your academic journey.
These programs can deepen your learning and connect you with highly motivated peers. Look for special seminars, capstone projects, or thesis options that challenge you intellectually and build a strong academic portfolio. Beyond academics, stay curious and explore workshops, leadership roles, and campus initiatives. The more proactive and involved you are, the more doors you’ll open—and the more you’ll grow both personally and professionally during your time in college.
