What to Expect from your Department

It’s important to understand that your Academic Department is more than just a place for classes and grades — it’s a central hub for your growth, support, and engagement. Courses are designed to challenge your thinking, deepen your knowledge, and prepare you for future opportunities. Faculty are not only experts in their fields but also mentors who are here to help you succeed and be informed and empowered every step of the way.

Beyond academics, your department is a place to build community and make meaningful connections. You’ll find opportunities to collaborate with peers, engage in research, join student organizations, and attend events that broaden your experience. There are many ways to form relationships with faculty, staff, and fellow students. This sense of connection will be a key part of your undergraduate experience, helping you feel supported, included, and ready to thrive in your chosen field.

In addition to academic support, the Department is also committed to recognizing and rewarding your achievements through scholarships and awards. These opportunities are available to students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, service, or a commitment to their field of study. Some scholarships may be merit-based, while others consider financial need or specific areas of interest. Departmental awards often celebrate outstanding coursework, research contributions, or community involvement, and being recognized can enhance your resume and open doors to further opportunities. Stay informed through departmental communications and take the initiative to apply—these honors are meant to support your journey and celebrate your hard work.
