What is Law and Justice?

The Law and Justice program is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of legal systems, justice theory, and the issues that intersect with law. The Law and Justice major is best suited for a student who wants an undergraduate education focused on law.  As an interdisciplinary program, it allows students to investigate issues of law and justice from various perspectives, including Philosophy, Sociology, English, History, Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies, as well as African American and Africana studies.

The Law and Justice core is designed to provide students with a foundation that will prepare them to succeed in more challenging courses as they move through the major. After completing the premajor and core requirements, the flexibility of the curriculum allows students to design a course of study in four content areas: law and courts, justice and rights, analysis and logic, and law and letters. Law and Justice majors are also encouraged to explore the field outside the classroom through participation in internships, research, and independent work.

While many Law and Justice majors may want to attend law school, other career options make the degree a good choice. These include careers in law and justice-focused non-governmental organizations, government, and private-sector institutions.
