Academic Advising

Connecting with your academic advisor is one of the most effective ways to make the most of your college experience. All undergraduate students at the University of Kentucky are required to meet with their academic advisor each semester until they’ve completed 60 credit hours. However, students are strongly encouraged to continue these meetings throughout their academic journey. Advisors provide expert guidance on choosing a major, planning your course schedule, and identifying additional opportunities like dual degrees, certificates, or honors programs that can expand your academic experience.

Political Science & Law and Justice Advising

Undergraduate students majoring in Political Science and Law and Justice receive advising support through the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center. Students can schedule 30-minute advising appointments, either in person or virtually, or use on-call advising services for quick questions. Advising sessions are led by professional academic advisors and, at times, faculty members, offering tailored support for your academic goals.

To schedule an appointment or learn more, visit the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center Page.

Pre-Law Advising

Students interested in applying to law school are encouraged to work with Pre-Professional Advisors who specialize in Pre-Law advising. These advisors support students from all majors, helping them explore law-related coursework, prepare for the LSAT, and navigate the application process. They also connect students with enrichment opportunities and experiences that build strong, competitive applications.

For additional information, please visit the Pre-Law Advising Page.

Outside the Department Advising

Law and Justice and Political Science majors who have a primary major that is outside of the College of Arts and Sciences should utilize drop-in advising.

For broader advising resources across UK’s colleges, visit the University Academic Advising Page.

No matter your major or career plans, your advisor is a valuable guide, here to help you set goals, stay on track, and make the most of your academic journey.
