Foreword

This Open Educational Resource (OER) laboratory manual is designed for use in an introductory college Meteorology course that serves both majors and non-majors, but may also be appropriate for advanced high school academic environments. Each of the 11 laboratory exercises are presented as stand alone chapters within this book to increase accessibility and potential adaptability for instructors seeking to curate specific content to suit their needs. Within each exercise are a series of brief concept checks for which answers are provided in the appendix.

There is a strong focus of this laboratory manual on meteorological examples within the United States, and within Kentucky specifically. As OER, users of this manual are welcome to adapt the example to incorporate examples and meteorological content from their own location.

It is estimated that each exercise takes less than 1 hour, and in practice is paired with a brief 10 question quiz used to assess student understanding. For logistical purposes, the quizzes are not shared with this manual.

The creation and dissemination of this laboratory manual as OER was made possible by a grant from the Western Kentucky University Libraries via the Affordable Textbook Program.
