Module 4: Other Research Resources

Doctoral Research in Arts Administration
activity 4.0:
Your Research Network

Instructions: This activity takes the form of one last research questionnaire about your geographically local research landscape and your personal network of fellow researchers. The purpose of making lists of local libraries in your area and the human researchers you know is to broaden and strengthen your PhD research foundation. We hope you will rely very heavily on the UK Libraries and your professors, librarians, and fellow students at UK, as well as feel supported by the additional resources you have available to you locally and in your personal networks.

1. List the library resources beyond the University of Kentucky Libraries that are personally available to you and explain your levels of access. These might include a public library that offers access to local government publications or streaming films you can access with a library card; a local college or university you can make appointments to visit for database access onsite; or a library of any type that will grant you a community library card or offers public access.

2. Start to make a list of people who can help you access research materials: naturally your UK professors, librarian, and PhD cohort, but also fellow students in your field at other universities; mentors from your undergraduate institution; friends who might be studying or working in completely different academic programs; family members who have access to various library resources in their areas; and others, depending on your own experience.

As I wrote at the end of the last module in this book, I will always in my role as an academic librarian strive to put you in touch with every resource at my disposal. I hope you will consider me part of your research network, and that I’ll speak with you soon and throughout your progress toward your degree.
