Introduction

Your enrollment as a student in an online degree program at UK offers you the same levels of library privileges as local students physically in Lexington, but in formats adapted to distance learning. You also have libraries in your own geographical area and varying levels of access to them. To begin thinking about the issues of access, subscription, and value researchers encounter when conducting academic library research both online and in person, this module invites you to list all library resources that are personally available to you, physically and virtually, and explain your levels of access. In order to capitalize and expand on that access, you will also begin to
create a personal network of scholars, librarians, and fellow doctoral students who can help you access research materials both near and far.

Outcomes

After completing this unit, students will be able to:

  • Investigate other libraries available to you in addition the University of Kentucky Libraries
  • Begin to build a network of fellow library researchers you can contact during the course of your doctoral program
